Wolfsburg secured a tough victory in an away fixture while Leverkusen scored five goals against a good Stuttgart side. Still, the round came with two surprises. The first one came in the easy win for Eintracht over Hoffenheim. That result has now put them on the 4th spot of the table. However, the other surprise was much bigger as it featured Dortmund losing to Freiburg. Because of that, they are now barely holding on to the 6th position. Dortmund have now lost three games in the last five rounds.

Title-chasers RB Leipzig welcome Augsburg after just one league defeat in their last five (W3, D1, L1), with all three wins coming ‘to nil’, in addition to scoring the opener in all five. So far this season, they’ve conceded a league-low of 17 goals and kept a league-high ten clean sheets. Six of these ten clean sheets came at home (W8, D1, L1), whilst they haven’t conceded more than once at home in the league all season. Though Leipzig are yet to lose a first half at home (HT: W5, D5), their last four home league games have produced 0-0 a HT score line. The Red Bull side is performing very well this season. As a matter of fact, they look like the only team capable of challenging Bayern for the title. However, for that to happen, they need to win fixtures like the one against Augsburg on Saturday.
Augsburg
On a run of nine league games without a draw (W3, L6), Augsburg saw the eventual winner score first in eight of these. A club-high ten defeats at this stage of the season (W6, D4, L10) saw them concede first in nine of those, although they did at least open the scoring in all six wins. The guests haven’t won a first half in their last eight away Bundesliga games since opening day (HT: D6, L2), although their last five road trips have at least produced HT draws. A low-scoring affair is likely as Augsburg’s away league matches have produced the second-lowest average of total goals this season (2.44 goals), but five of nine saw both teams score. Augsburg have won just one game in the last five rounds. At the moment, they are just five points above the relegation zone and can’t afford another loss right now.
Prediction
Leipzig are absolute favorites to win this fixture. They are playing at home and their squad has more quality. On top of that, their form has been excellent in the new year as the Red Bull side are expected to win this game comfortably. Augsburg, on the other hand, are probably headed towards a relegation battle. It’s highly unlikely that they could get a positive result on Friday night but they might be able to score at least one goal. The hosts are in dire danger of being cast away from the European qualification spots, following a run of just one win in five league games (W1, D1, L3). The last two of those defeats both saw Dortmund concede exactly twice in the middle third (31’-60’) of play without response. Despite the lack of home fans, Dortmund are unbeaten in home league action in 2021 (W2, D1), averaging 1.67 goals beyond the hour mark. Additionally, Dortmund’s four home league victories this term to yield a clean sheet have consistently seen a majority – if not all – of their match goals coming beyond HT. Dortmund are having a season to forget. Instead of challenging Bayern for the title, they are barely in the TOP 6. They have won just one game in the last five rounds and things are not looking good. Dortmund have to win this fixture or risk dropping further down on the table.
Hoffenheim
Hoffenheim are not 100% safe from an unthinkable relegation, after three straight league defeats to opponents beginning Friday above them in the table. Each of that trio saw ‘Die Kreichgauer’ lose the first half, of which two produced a 3-1 score line wherein Hoffenheim netted their consolation inside the 46th-60th minute period. The visitors’ away league form since the end of the October international break offers no comfort either (W2, D2, L4). They conceded at least 50% of their ‘goals against’ in the second half in each of the last three losses therein, but scored Goal 3 of the day in two of those defeats. Hoffenheim were the team that gave Bayern their first defeat of the season. However, they have done nothing good since then. At the moment, just five points separate them from the relegation zone and another loss will be a disaster for them.
Prediction
Both teams are in awful form at the moment but Dortmund are still considered favorites to win this game. They have home turf advantage and a stronger squad. With just one win in the last five rounds Dortmund are desperate for points and they have to win here or this season would be a massive failure for them. Dortmund won the reverse fixture earlier this season and with home turf on their side they should win this one as well. For that reason, we are backing a Home Side Victory @ 1.51 odds.

A club record four straight Bundesliga shutouts, with a matching run of four wins, has propelled Wolfsburg into contention for a Champions League place. It’s the first half where they do most damage, striking the league’s second-highest tally of goals (20) as opposed to 12 thereafter. Unsurprisingly, no side has registered less HT league deficits than Wolfsburg’s one this campaign. The ‘Wolves’ remain unbeaten at home in competitive action this season (W9, D3), and should feel confident against a Borussia Mönchengladbach side that haven’t won here since 2003 (BMG: D3, L12). It’s also a H2H that has never seen the HT winner go on to lose in 42 historical matchups (any venue). One cautionary note for Wolfsburg backers, coach Oliver Glasner has only ever beaten Gladbach counterpart Marco Rose on two occasions (D4, L5) dating back to their days in Austria together.

Despite scoring first in seven of nine league road trips, Gladbach have only been able to register two HT leads. With Wolfsburg’s propensity for first-half dominance backed up by a W5, D1 record as a home favorite this league season, Gladbach may have their work cut out to improve on their W1, D1, L4 record as an away outsider since the start of last season. Monchengladbach were sitting top of the table at one point. However, at the moment, they are struggling to get back to the TOP 6. For that reason, we are backing a Both Teams to Score outcome @ 1.57 odds.
Prediction
Wolfsburg are having a very good season. They have been adamant in defense which is why they have lost only two games. In attack, they could do better because they have played eight draws so far which is quite extraordinary. Nevertheless, they are currently third on the table and they look like a team prepared to fight for a TOP 4 spot. Monchengladbach, on the other hand, haven’t been able to find the form they had at the start of the season. They dropped out of the TOP 6 and are not performing well at the moment.
