The Premier League took a little break after the 19th round which was a double matchweek. Most EPL teams participated in the 4th round of the FA Cup over the weekend. Nevertheless, now they are back in action with the 20th matchweek. In the last round, we saw United protect their top spot with City right on their tails. The Blue side of Manchester have a game in hand and they could go top. However, Guardiola’s side got the worst news and that’s an injury to Kevin De Bruyne who will be out of action for a month. In other news, Leicester took care of Chelsea as their winning run continued. Chelsea, on the other hand, fired Lampard because of that loss and are now about to sign Tuchel as his replacement. We also have to mention that Liverpool have now dropped points five games in a row.
We expect the 20th matchweek to bring a lot of excitement and with that a lot of Bitcoin Betting action. Below, we are going to cover the three fixtures that could impact the EPL table the most. First, we have Southampton hosting Arsenal yet again after beating them in the FA Cup over the weekend. That fixture finished 1:0 but in this one, Arsenal will field their best squad. Next. we have a fantastic derby between Everton and Leicester. The Toffees could return to the TOP 4 with a win even though other results have to go their way as well. Last but not least, we have the holding champions in away action against the Spurs. Mourinho will do his best to cause Liverpool even more misfortune at the moment. Southampton vs Arsenal
Southampton
It’s Groundhog Day at St Mary’s as Southampton take on Arsenal again just a few days after eliminating the ‘Gunners’ from the FA Cup, in what was the first time they have eliminated any defending FA Cup champion since knocking out Tottenham in 1901/02! That result also gave the ‘Saints’ a fifth clean sheet from their last six games (W3, D2, L1) as they look to move towards the Premier League’s (PL) European spots. Although sitting in midtable, Southampton’s PL home form puts them firmly in the top four (W5, D1, L3), whilst their 1-0 win over Liverpool in their last PL game here gave them an impressive fifth HT/FT home win ‘to nil’ of the top-flight campaign. The Saints need a win after they got outplayed by the Foxes in the last round.
Arsenal
Arsenal’s cup elimination will have disappointed manager Mikel Arteta for a variety of reasons, not least because it ended a run of 508 minutes of competitive football without conceding, and a six-game unbeaten run (W4, D2 – 90 minutes only). A win here would see them leapfrog Southampton in the table though, but no first-half goal in four competitive matches indicates Arsenal won’t start with all guns blazing. They would do well to start strongly though, as all four of Arsenal’s away league defeats this season saw them trail at HT – as did their previous four competitive H2H away losses. However, the visitors tend to come into their own during the second half, conceding a league-low one goal after HT on the road, and subsequently losing just one second half away (SH: W4, D4, L1).
Prediction
Quality wise, the Gooners have the advantage over Southampton. However, the Saints have been playing much better this season. They are in a bit of a slump at the moment but now that their star players are back from injury, Southampton are ready to get back to winning ways. When it comes to facing Arsenal, they just beat them 1:0 in the FA Cup. It won’t be the same when they play them in the EPL but it’s highly likely that the Saints could surprise the Gooners once again. For that reason, we are backing a 1X Double Chance outcome @ 1.76 odds.
Southampton vs Arsenal
Everton vs Leicester City
Everton
Top-four chasing Everton have won six of their last ten competitive matches inside 90 mins, and four of those victories were accompanied by a clean sheet, including a 2-0 win vs Leicester City. In turn, they could attain a first Premier League (PL) H2H double since 2016/17, though their record in return PL H2Hs after winning the first reads: W1, D3, L1. In addition to scoring before the 30th minute in three consecutive matches, the ‘Toffees’ last conceded more than a solitary goal in a PL fixture back in November. They’ve conceded only five times across the eight PL matches since (W5, D1, L2), with six of those opponents failing to attempt more than 3.5 shots on target. The Toffees have won four out of their last five fixtures but it’s games like this one that they have to win if they hope to finish in the TOP 4.
Leicester
Though trailing in an 11-game league H2H streak without a draw by just the odd game (W5, L6), Leicester City come into this fixture in strong form, with no defeat in eight competitive matches (W6, D2). They’ve been ruthless in attack during that sequence, netting 2+ goals in seven of the games. Only Manchester United have picked up more PL points on the road so far this season than Brendan Rodgers’ men (W7, D1, L1). In these away matches, they’ve been at their most lethal in the closing 30 minutes, scoring ten times in this period whilst conceding only three goals in response. The Foxes are having another fantastic season as they continue to chase the TOP 4. However, they will have to face their opponents in the next weeks without their star player James Vardy who is injured until mid February.
Prediction
We expect this fixture to be one of the best in this season’s Premier League. The reverse fixture finished 0:2 as the Toffees outclassed Leicester. This means that the Foxes will be looking for revenge in this fixture even though they have to face Everton without Vardy. With that being said, it’s extremely risky to back any side to win this fixture. For that reason, we are backing a Both Teams to Score outcome @ 1.80 odds.
Everton vs Leicester City
Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool
Tottenham
Unbeaten in four Premier League (PL) matches (W2, D2), Tottenham Hotspur remain title contenders. By the end of the previous league matchweek, no PL team had scored more (21) or conceded fewer (four) first-half goals, but the ‘Lilywhites’ remain vulnerable late on, having conceded 47.06% of their league goals this term after the 75th minute. Yet to let in a league goal at home before the 30th minute all season, ‘Spurs’ have scored first in seven (77.78%) of their PL home games this term. Unbeaten when doing so (W4, D3), they’ll hope for more of the same, especially against a true ‘bogey team’ against whom they have won just one of the last eight competitive H2Hs (D1, L6). Liverpool have been in their worst form in years and the Spurs need to take advantage of that.
Liverpool
Though unbeaten in league action when playing in London (W2, D1), Liverpool are rapidly losing their grip on the PL crown they won so easily last year. A recent 1-0 defeat to Burnley (Jan 21), ended their 68-game unbeaten league run at Anfield, and marked 4+ consecutive league games without a goal for the first time since April/May 2000. The ‘Reds’ have particularly struggled to convert opportunities on the road into results, and haven’t kept a first-half clean sheet in three competitive away games (W1, L2). Their last PL away win (7-0 vs Crystal Palace) was preceded by four straight league draws on the road, three of which saw Liverpool concede the last goal of the game. Liverpool are currently trailing United six points and they can’t afford to lose again.
Prediction
This is always an interesting fixture, especially since Mourinho has been coach of Tottenham. He is the master of frustrating opposing teams but Jurgen Klopp has been a an ongoing problem for him. Liverpool has defeated Tottenham in six consecutive meetings, three of those with Mourinho as manager. However, Liverpool are now in awful form and the Spurs have home turf advantage. It’s the perfect setting for a Tottenham victory but Liverpool can’t afford to lose another fixture. That’s why, we are backing an Over 2.75 Goals outcome @ 2.01 odds.
