Now that the UCL group stage is over, teams will be playing twice the league games to make up for lost time due to the season starting at a later date. The Bundesliga is one of those leagues, and the 12th round comes just two days after the weekend. In the last one, some unexpected results happened that caused changes to the table. Borussia Dortmund succumbed to an unusually high defeat against Stuttgart even though they were playing at home. Because of that result, they have now dropped below the TOP 4. Wolfsburg took their spot who after beating Eintracht in the previous round are one of only two teams that are still undefeated in the league. On the other hand, the holding champions also dropped points. A draw against Union Berlin meant that Leverkusen will be taking the top spot in the league.
The Red Bull side won their fixture as well. They are now tied with Bayern with both teams at 24 points. However, Leverkusen are now leading the charge with one point more than them. Werder Bremen vs Borussia Dortmund

A match against Borussia Dortmund would usually strike fear in the heart of struggling Bundesliga teams like Werder Bremen who are winless across their last eight top-flight fixtures (D5, L3), but this is a Dortmund side on the verge of their worst winless league run in three years and now manager-less after a 5-1 thrashing last time out, all of which will give Bremen hope as they hunt their first home H2H Bundesliga victory since 2014. They will, however, have to improve upfront after netting just once in each of their five Bundesliga home games (W1, D2, L2). That’s contributed to every Bundesliga fixture here seeing the same result at HT as FT, so opening the scoring for the third time at home this season – after doing so twice within the first 30 minutes previously (W1, D1) – could be Bremen’s route to that first H2H home victory in six years.
Dortmund
Considering Dortmund have conceded the opener within 35 minutes in four straight Bundesliga games – and picked up just four of 12 possible points when doing so (W1, D1, L2) – attacking the visitors from the off could be a successful tactic. In fact the German giants are yet to score a first-half away goal this Bundesliga campaign (HT: D2, L3), but have scored an average of 1.8 second-half goals per road trip. Just one clean sheet from Dortmund’s last eight competitive visits to Bremen (W4, D2, L2) also shows recent H2H games haven’t always gone their way, although injury-troubled Dortmund do at least travel here with a four-game unbeaten Bundesliga away run to protect (W3, D1). However, Dortmund are now without a coach and winning against Werder won’t be easy, even though Werder haven’t won a Bundesliga game in forever.
Prediction
Simply looking at squad quality, this should be an easy win for Dortmund. However, they are in a bad position at the moment. Their coach was sacked in the previous round because of bad performances. This was supposed to be a great season for them but after losing Haaland to injury, Dortmund have been poor in attack. Still, they should have enough quality to win this fixture. For that reason, we are backing an Away Side Victory @ 1.58 odds.

Bayern Munich vs Wolfsburg

The Bavarians’ 1-1 stalemate at Union Berlin marked a third draw in five league outings (W2, D3) and saw them slip to second. Even so, Bayern have still won 23 of their 28 Bundesliga matches played in the 2020 calendar year, though the rate of both teams scoring across wins therein has jumped from a pre-COVID lockdown 42.86% to a post-resumption 56.25%. The hosts have seen a 60% majority (six) of their last ten home league wins produce over 2.5 total second-half goals. Relevantly, just three of the 23 prior Bundesliga H2Hs held in Munich (and none of the last 11) have seen both teams score before HT, but six of the last eight league clashes fought here have produced over 2.5 goals overall. This season, Bayern have several title contenders. That’s why they can’t afford to drop any more points at this stage of the season.
Wolfsburg
Visiting Wolfsburg remain one of just two unbeaten Bundesliga sides ahead of this round (W5, D6). This record is all the more impressive, given that ‘Die Wolfe’ have conceded the opening goal in six (54.55%) of their 11 league matches so far, and their record is W2, D4 when doing so. The visitors have never won a competitive away game against Bayern (D2, L25), specifically losing one half by an exact 2-0 scoreline in each of their last four league visits to the Allianz Arena. However, Wolfsburg should get their chances, with both teams scoring in half of the last six Bundesliga H2Hs held here. Wolfsburg are unbeaten so far and they will try to keep it that way. Bayern are a powerhouse but Wolfsburg have shown that they have enough quality to avoid defeat even against the strongest sides.
Prediction
Bayern are favorites in this fixture as they will be looking to bounce back. They have now played two draws in a row and dropping points three rounds in a row would be a disaster. The last time Wolfsburg managed a positive outcome against the Bavarians was back in 2017 when the game finished 2:2. However, this is a different Wolfsburg side, much better than in recent years. That’s why, we are backing a Both Teams to Score outcome @ 1.67 odds.
Hoffenheim vs RB Leipzig

The hosts haven’t defeated RB Leipzig in any competition (D1, L4) since the start of 2018/19, failing to record a first-half goal in four of those five H2H clashes. However, as one of seven clubs to have won as a home outsider in the 2020/21 Bundesliga (W1, L1), as well as scoring first-half goals in three of their five league games at home, they’ve shown scope for improvement. They still remain undefeated at home when opening the scoring (W2, D1), having done so within the first 20 minutes on all three occasions so far, whilst restricting their opposition on the day to a 0-0 HT result in their two home defeats. Interestingly, all but one of their five 2020/21 Bundesliga home fixtures have racked up over 3.5 goals.
Leipzig
A 2-0 win at the weekend continued Leipzig’s second-best 11-game start to a Bundesliga campaign and took them just one point off top spot, yet a worry will come from their Bundesliga record of W1, D2, L1 as an away favorite which is well below the league win-rate of 43.90% (at the beginning of the round). Whilst they remain undefeated away from home when scoring first (W1, D2), Leipzig’s defense has conceded before HT in three of their five Bundesliga away outings so far. That’s seen them accrue just one HT/FT double on the road this Bundesliga campaign, after they notched up an impressive 11 in 2019/20. The Red Bull side is now just one point below the table leaders. This is a game they can’t afford to lose but it will be easier said than done.
Prediction
Leipzig are playing much better than Hoffenheim at the moment. They have now qualified for the last 16 in the UCL for the second year in a row. On top of that, they are challenging Bayern for the title. Hoffenheim, on the other hand, are not having a very good season. It’s been 11 rounds and all they have managed are three wins and three draws. In the last round, they were totally outplayed by a motivated Leverkusen side. Leipzig will try to do the same but Hoffenheim are playing at home, this time around. For that reason, we are backing an Over 2.75 Goals outcome @ 1.51 odds.
