Welcome to the 12th Premier League matchweek of the 2020/2021 season. The last round brought some interesting results and saw Tottenham remain on top. They beat their arch-rivals in the local derby and now have the best record in the league. However, Liverpool are right on their tail as they returned to winning ways in strong fashion. The Reds took care of Wolverhampton in spectacular fashion even though all experts predicted a a tough fixture. Chelsea are having a very good season as well. They beat Leeds in the previous matchweek and are now just two points from the top of the table. Lastly, we have the Foxes who played an extremely hard fixture against Sheffield. After losing two games in a row, Leicester had to win against the Blades. Eventually, they won the game but it took them the full 90 minutes to do so.

The Red Devils carry some negativity into this match after their Champions League exit, but on four straight wins in the Premier League (PL), they enter the round a point ahead of rivals Manchester City. Furthermore, the ‘Red Devils’ have won three of the last four competitive H2Hs, netting the opener before HT in all three. However, the home side on the day have won just three of the last ten competitive H2Hs overall. Winners in Europe midweek despite some rotation of the side, the ‘Sky Blues’ have a poor PL away record this season (W2, D2, L1), scoring just 1.2 goals on average across those. However, City have their own H2H bragging rights, winning three of the last four PL H2Hs at Old Trafford (L1), and scoring precisely two goals in all three wins. Overall, City have picked up some steam with four wins from their last five competitive matches (D1), remarkably keeping a clean sheet in all five and scoring 2.2 goals on average. In the PL, their seven goals across their last two matches is as many as in the seven preceding those. City were struck with a lot of injuries at the start of the season. Now, most of their top players are back in action and the team is playing better with every passing game.
Prediction
City have the stronger squad but they have had problems defeating United at Old Trafford for some time. However, this time around, the Red Devils come to this match on the back of a very disappointing defeat. They got kicked out of the Champions League by Leipzig even though they held the 1st spot on the UCL table for most of the group stage. Now, they have to face their city rivals and can’t afford another painful loss. Still, with things as they are, chances are that the Citizens will claim all three points. For that reason, we are backing an Away Side Victory @ 1.76 odds.

The Toffees are looking to avoid three successive home Premier League (PL) defeats for the first time since the start of 2008/09. However, they have just one win across their previous seven league matches (W1, D2, L4), conceding 2+ goals in five of those matches, and going without a PL clean sheet since their opening day win away at Tottenham. Despite their defensive woes, the ‘Toffees’ have illustrated themselves as one of the better attacking sides, and their goal average of 1.82 per game can be bettered by just seven other PL teams. In their most recent matches, they’ve been most dangerous before half-time, netting each of their previous five PL goals in this half of the match. Everton need to find their form again and return to the TOP 4. They have just one win in the last five EPL rounds.
Chelsea
Chelsea travel to Goodison Park full of confidence having won four (D1) of their past five PL matches. Additionally, no PL side is on a longer active unbeaten run than the Blues (W5, D4). Usually wasting no time, Chelsea have scored their first goal of the game before the 30th minute In four of their previous five PL matches. Visiting manager Frank Lampard has lost only one of his six touchline meetings with former coaches – W1, D/L0 (vs Carlo Ancelotti) and W3, D1, L1 (vs Jose Mourinho). His club are without a win at Everton in three visits though (D1, L2), conceding a goal after the 70th minute in both of their two most recent matches there. The London Blues are having their best season in years. They are challenging for the title which means dropping points to Everton is unacceptable.
Prediction
Based on current events, Chelsea are strong favorites to win this fixture. They also have the stronger squad but Everton are the ones playing at home and this time around, they will have some fans at Goodison Park. The Toffees are desperate for a win and will do everything in their power to avoid defeat. That’s why backing Chelsea to win is risky and it doesn’t offer enough value. Instead, we are backing a Both Teams to Score outcome @ 1.62 odds.

A 5-1 hammering of ten-man West Brom last weekend continued Crystal Palace’s all or nothing Premier League (PL) campaign (W5, D1, L5), but they still managed just 50% ball possession in that match. That’s notable, as Palace have lost the last seven PL games in which they recorded over 50% possession. Palace’s previous home fixture saw them field the oldest average starting XI of any team this PL season (30 years, 182 days), and they subsequently lost 2-0, ending a five-game scoring streak at home. They did manage to score before HT in their other four PL home fixtures of 2020/21, netting the opener within 20 minutes in three. Last season, Palace held their city rivals to a 1-1 draw in this fixture. Their fans will be hoping for a similar outcome this season.
Tottenham
North London derby success kept Tottenham Hotspur at the PL summit ahead of this gameweek, as that 2-0 win solidified their status as the division’s best defenders with just 0.82 goals conceded per match. Using the ball effectively, Spurs ran out winners despite having just 31% ball possession in that match, in what was the 11th time that a José Mourinho managed side had 35% or less possession in a PL game, but the ninth win despite that (D1, L1). In Mourinho’s words, Tottenham are having ‘good fun’ as they hunt their first top-flight title since 1960/61, and travel here unbeaten away this PL campaign after picking up 13 away points – their most after five road trips since 1991/92. However, Tottenham’s last three away matches didn’t see any goal before the 75th minute.
Prediction
The Spurs are currently favorites to win the Premier League. Their squad is not very deep but their star players are in perfect form at the moment. To remain first on the table, Tottenham have to win this fixture. However, London derbies are never based on statistics. Its about prestige and on a good day, Palace are more than capable of surprising the Spurs. For that reason, we are backing an Over 2.75 Goals outcome @ 2.13 odds.
