Bitcoin Betting: Champions League Preview – Group Stage 09/12

Here we have the last day of action from the 2020/2021 Champions League group stage. A lot of teams have secured passage to the next phase but some of them need victories in the last game to qualify for the round of 16. Group A and B are the ones where the most unexpected results could happen. Atletico Madrid failed to win against the Bavarians in the last round so now they have to avoid defeat in the last round if they are to go through to the next stage. Real Madrid lost to Shakhtar yet again and now anything can happen in Group B. Basically, every team in the group has a chance to qualify for the next stage but every team can lose their chance of qualifying as well. On the other hand, Ajax lost to Liverpool again and are now in a very tough situation.

Bitcoin Betting will be extremely popular for the games from Group B as well as all the others. Below, we will cover the three most exciting fixtures of the final round. First, we have Ajax hosting Atalanta in a game that either side has to win. The reverse fixture finished 2:2 so we expect another fantastic game. Next, we have Madrid hosting Monchengladbach in a game where they can’t lose. They could end up last in the group if they lose but they are through with even a draw. Last but not least, we have Salzburg against Atletico Madrid. The Spanish side needs a draw or a victory to secure the 2nd spot on the table. However, that’s easier said than done. Champions League Predictions & Bitcoin Betting Tips

Ajax vs Atalanta

It is win or bust for Ajax – anything less, and they will transfer to the UEFA Europa League. After a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool on the penultimate UEFA Champions League (UCL) group stage matchday, the Dutch champions have won just three of their last nine UCL fixtures (W3, D2, L4), with Ajax winning the first half in four (80%) of the games won/drawn. Despite claiming an easy win over Midtjylland in the last UCL game here, three 1-0 UCL home defeats immediately prior threw their usual winning mentality into question. Furthermore, if including qualifiers, four (66.67%) of the Dutch champions’ last six UCL home games have seen the winner on the day go into the break 1-0 up.

Atalanta need only a clean sheet to progress to the UCL Round of 16, but a 1-1 draw vs the eliminated Midtjylland marked their third UCL game in four to see them trail to nil at HT. Yet, they have shown ruthlessness at select times, with both group stage wins seeing them net consecutive match goals less than seven minutes apart. Seeing all of their six prior UCL away games (W4, L2) produce over 2.5 total goals and/or witnessing the winner overcome the -1 handicap, the visitors are chasing a fifth consecutive UCL away win. In a sequence going back to December 2019, the preceding four have seen Atalanta average 3.25 goals per game, and an average winning margin of 2.50 goals.

Prediction

These two sides are equal when it comes to quality and performance. Both Ajax and Atalanta can score goals but they are not the best in defense. The reverse fixture finished 2:2 and this one will be just as unexpected as the first one. Atalanta have the home turf advantage and they also need just a draw to remain in the competition. Ajax, on the other hand, have to win the game to go through to the last 16 phase. For that reason, we are backing an Over 2.75 Goals outcome @ 1.55 odds.

Real Madrid vs Borussia Monchengladbach

Real Madrid find themselves uncharacteristically out of the top two spots on UEFA Champions League (UCL) matchday six, but the 13-time European champions can still save their blushes if they get a win here. That would secure a route through to the knockouts, but Madrid must improve their defensive performances after conceding nine goals (1.8 on average per match), their worst-ever tally after five UCL group stage games. However, both of Madrid’s UCL home fixtures this season saw them concede 2+ goals (W1, L1), and form part of a five-game run of conceding at home in all competitions (W2, L3). In fact, Madrid have also conceded two goals the last four times they hosted a Bundesliga club (W2, D2), bringing up the real possibility of a repeat of this season’s 2-2 reverse fixture.

Such a repeat would please Borussia Mönchengladbach who can guarantee progression if they secure at least a draw here. However, having scored 2+ goals in all five UCL fixtures this term (W2, D2, L1) and subsequently netting a joint-group stage high of 3.2 goals per match, an away win isn’t out of the realms of possibility – a victory would also guarantee them top spot. On the verge of finishing in the UCL group stage top two for the first time ever, the visitors travel here in great scoring away form too, netting 2+ goals in six straight away games in all competitions (W3, D2, L1). History isn’t on their side though, with Gladbach winless in their last seven away matches in Spain (D2, L5).

Prediction

This is probably the most important match of this season’s group stage. A draw would secure passage for both teams but it’s hard to believe that Real Madrid would allow Monchengladbach to take the 1st spot away from them. Nevertheless, Madrid barely got a draw in the reverse fixture and the German side is definitely in better form at the moment. With that being said, we are backing a Both Teams to Score outcome @ 1.63 odds.

Real Madrid vs Borussia Monchengladbach

Salzburg vs Atletico Madrid

Salzburg (W1, D1, L3) can qualify for the UEFA Champions League (UCL) knockouts for the first time by winning here. Even if they don’t, they’ll still reach the UEFA Europa League should Bayern Munich avoid defeat. All seven of their UCL games this term (including qualifiers) produced over 2.5 goals and saw both teams score, while their last five UCL victories came despite conceding, so entertainment looks likely here. However, with just one win from their last five UCL home games (D1, L3), the omens aren’t good. Furthermore, they’ve never kept a clean sheet in UCL group stage action here (W1, D1, L3), conceding an average of 3.0 goals per match. Interestingly, they have scored in each half during all three European home games this term (W1, D1, L1).

Atlético Madrid (W1, D3, L1) can reach the knockout stages by avoiding defeat, and encouragingly, they enter this match on the back of a ten-game unbeaten streak in all competitions (W7, D3). They opened the scoring in nine of those matches, including October’s 3-2 win over Salzburg. Boasting a perfect UEFA European record in Austria (W3), each of those three fixtures featured three goals. However, the Spaniards have won just one of their last ten European away games (D2, L7 – outcomes at 90 minutes) with only two fixtures therein goalless at HT. The Spanish side should have no trouble defeating Salzburg but they have been struggling to find their form in the Champions League. They barely won the reverse fixture against Salzburg even though they were playing in home.

Prediction

Atletico are currently topping the league table in Spain and are the only undefeated side there. However, they haven’t been nearly as good in the Champions League. With just one victory in the group so far, Atletico must hold out against Salzburg. They don’t really need to win but playing for a draw is never a good idea. Atletico should play to win as they have way more quality than Salzburg. For that reason, we are backing an Away Side Victory @ 2.22 odds.
